2009 LABOR DAY PARADE AND PICNIC INFORMATION

LABOR DAY PARADE DETAILS
Delaware Public Employees Council 81 AFSCME locals will meet on Monday, September 7, 2009 in Parking Lot "D" adjacent to the Blue Rocks Stadium in Wilmington after 9:00 a.m. T-Shirts will be distributed to all registered parade walkers. A map showing this location is given below.
We will be bused to the parade starting point at approximately 9:30 a.m. and will be arranged in local number order for the parade march. Last year we were second in the parade, however, this year, we will lead the parade in the usual rotations of trades, private and public sector.
Directly after the parade, the buses will return us to the parking lot so that we may prepare for our annual Labor Day Picnic at Banning Park.
The deadline for registration for the 2009 Labor Day Parade and Picnic closed on Friday, August 28, 2009. This deadline was set to provide our caterer with an accurate count and this year we will have to close on that date with no grace period for latercomers.
We'll see you at the 2009 Labor Day Parade and Delaware Public Employees Council 81 AFSCME Picnic!!!
----------------------------
Please meet here after 9:00 a.m. - Buses will leave at approximately 9:30 a.m.
It's time again for the AFSCME family to gather together and celebrate and honor working men and women in Delaware. As AFSCME, "We Make Delaware Happen." Everyday, we provide the services that make this state go!
On Monday, September 7, 2009 at 12:00 p.m., Council 81 will host its annual Labor Day Picnic at Banning Park. 2009 Labor Day Flyer.
The deadline for registration is Friday, August 28, 2009. Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow any extensions this year for any reason.
AFSCME members and their families take this time each year to honor working men and women in Delaware and enjoy their families and the company of their local unions and other Council 81 locals.
This year, as in past years, the picnic area will at the Pavilion behind the Woodstock Mansion at Banning Park.
Due to rising costs, our fee structure has changed this year to ensure everyone has equal participation at the lowest cost. Everyone will need to purchase a $10.00 ticket for admittance to the picnic by the deadline in order to participate. The reason for the deadline is that we need to give the caterer a fixed count in time to receive the best pricing for the event. There is no charge for children under the age of 10, but they must have a ticket to participate.
Some new changes have been made this year to make our picnic more enjoyable to all. To alleviate congestion at the food line and ensure that everyone is fed without a great wait, we will provide tickets for lunch and dessert and our caterer will provide the servings to make the line move more quickly. Choices will still be provided, however, we cannot allow more than one serving per person. If there are leftovers, after we have fed everyone, we will open the line for "seconds."
In order to honor working men and women in Delaware and for AFSCME members to enjoy their day with their families, we will honor your continuing request that that there would be no distribution of campaign or other informational literature in the picnic area. Although this is not an election year, we will make this known to our invitees and ask them to honor your request. There will be no campaigning or distribution of campaign or other informational literature in the picnic area.
We will continue the practice of inviting our friends who are elected officials to celebrate this special day with us. This is not an "open event" as only our members who have registered and our invited guests are welcome.
Details of the event have been mailed to every AFSCME member in a flyer. The flyer is available on this website at the following link - 2009 Labor Day Parade Flyer
